To make this seashore themed treat craft, you just need a few simple ingredients.
- A can of vanilla frosting
- red and yellow food coloring
- brown sugar
- powdered sugar
- peanut butter
Mix red and yellow food coloring in a 1:10 ratio to create tan. Mix into frosting.
Once your frosting is thoroughly mixed, dump it all into a bowl. Pour in 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar and add in 1 cup of peanut butter. If you use natural peanut butter, use the kind that does not require stirring for this recipe. I know it’s not as “authentic” but the oil in the other kinds will not give your dough the right consistency.
Mix all of this up with a wooden spoon until it starts to get doughy. Then you may want to dump it out on your counter and get a little messy.
Knead it all together, adding in more powdered sugar a little at a time if things are too sticky until you get a sand colored mound of firm, but pliable dough.
Now to get a more real sandy feel, add in some light brown sugar. I started with 1/3 cup and then just added more until I got the consistency and texture that I was looking for after more kneading.
Now your child has a fun, homemade batch of beach ready playdough!
Provide some sand tools that are new and washed to dig and mold the dough.
Then when all the building is done, let your children take a bite! Mmmm! WARNING: this dough is PURE sugar. A few tastes is plenty! You can wrap up the remaining dough and store at room temperature for several days.
